An Unexpected Crop: Good Jobs for Youth

Founder and Director Johanna Gilligan released an op-ed in The Lens this morning on the importance and lasting impact of good food jobs.

“A strong stock market will do us no good if its foundation is an economy that further degrades the basis of the planet’s true wealth — its biodiversity, its water, air and soil. We have no choice but to see the links between our economic and environmental challenges and to address them as one.”

Hootenanny next door at Popp Fountain’s Arbor Room

The HOOTENANNY has finally arrived!

The Hootenanny is on, and we are moving the festivities next door to the gorgeous Arbor Room at Popp Fountain. It has a stellar dance floor and — perhaps most importantly for this drizzly spring day — ceilings! Hurray! Popp Fountain is nearby door the farm so you can still peek at our lush fields growing thousands of pounds of vegetables for New Orleans from a distance.

Advance ticket sales are now closed but you can purchase walk-up tickets at the event starting at 7pm tonight.

Popp Fountain’s Arbor Room is located in City Park at 30 Zachary Taylor Drive, right off Marconi Drive. (Before you get to the dog park and Grow Dat.)

Please help spread the word! We look forward to seeing you all in your best Barn Dance dress tonight.

Team Grow Dat

It’s HOOTENANNY Time! (Tomorrow, 4/17/14)

Please join us on the farm for Grow Dat’s biggest party of the year
April 17 from 7-10pm
Skip the line with cheaper tickets in advance!

The musicians are tuning their instruments, the chefs and bartenders are in the test kitchen working their magic, and the weather is looking beautiful — a guaranteed good time will be had by all!

Square dancing led by caller Nathan Harrison with the Small Batch String Band will kick off an evening of revelry on the farm. Headliner Bruce ‘Sunpie’ Barnes & the Louisiana Sunspots never fail to delight. Ready to showcase your Zydeco dance moves?!

Premier local restaurants dishing up delightful small plates for the event include Mondo, Dante’s Kitchen, Pagoda Cafe, St. James Cheese Company, Gary Granata of Slow Food NOLA, Nola Pie Guy, Good Eggs, Bittersweet Confections, and Cafe NOMA. And don’t forget unlimited craft cocktails and ice cold beer brought to you by amazing bartenders from the Barman’s Fund.

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year so please bring your friends and help support youth growing food for New Orleans!

Reserve your tickets online now! They’re cheaper and you’ll be able to make a bee-line to the fun faster on Thursday. Advance ticket sales close at noon the day of the festivities.

P.S. We heard a rumor that there will be prizes for BEST DRESSED and TOP RUG-CUTTERS (dancers) so come dressed to impress and ready to strut your stuff on the dance floor. Dress code? Why, Barn Dance Style, of course.

A big thank you to our Fiscal Sponsor, Slow Food NOLA

Already have your tickets? Hurray! Thank you! To further your support, would you please help spread the word by inviting your friends, family and coworkers to the event? Grow Dat is truly a community effort and most people find out about us through personal connections. Spread the word to help us grow! Click to join the Facebook Event and share with your network.
